The Mayo Clinic Health System in Northwest Wisconsin organizes an annual Psychiatry and Psychology symposium that aims to provide the latest evidence-based information on common psychiatric and psychological disorders. This year's symposium is titled "Empowering Mental Health Treatment in Rural America" and has a specific focus on equipping primary care physicians with the necessary tools to manage and treat common psychiatric and psychological disorders in an outpatient practice. The program is structured around the theme and includes expert faculty from the Mayo Clinic Health System and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. They will present evidence-based and emerging clinical approaches, offering a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective on psychiatric and psychological disorders.

Target Audience

This course is designed for internists, family medicine physicians, and pediatricians. Nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, LPC and mental health counselors, and others involved in mental health treatment in the community.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Integrate medication management for youth with ADHD, mood, and anxiety disorders in primary care settings.
• Describe the neurobiology of addiction disorders.
• Examine treatment for suicidal ideation and self-harm.
• Identify clinical strategies for autism spectrum disorder and related disorders across the lifespan.
• Describe the innovative treatment options for diverse communities.
